The "Cranes and Deer Door" print is an allover print of one of my favorite doors I came across while walking around all different parts of Seoul is this door that is referred to as a "십장생" (ship-jang-saeng) motif, meaning the Ten Symbols of Longevity (even if all ten symbols are not shown).

These traditional Korean decorative gate panels seen often on gates, fences, and doors of hanoks or older homes display a rich history that caught my eye every time I walked past one.

The motif combines several classic East Asian symbols of longevity and good fortune:

Cranes (학) – longevity, peace, nobility
Deer (사슴) – longevity, prosperity
Pine trees (소나무) – endurance and longevity
Mountains – stability and immortality
Clouds – good fortune and the heavenly realm
Bridge – passage or connection to an idyllic landscape
